Become a collection point for used batteries:

Registration & Information

As a state-recognized organization for producer responsibility (OfH), ECOPV-EU GmbH is your certified partner for battery recycling.

Retailers and distributors who sell batteries themselves are legally required under the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 and the German Battery Act Implementation Act (BattDG) to accept used batteries free of charge.

Our Service

  • For retailers & distributors: We support you in fulfilling your take-back obligations as a collection point. We provide you with the necessary collection containers and offer free pickup as well as proper disposal in accordance with the highest environmental standards.

  • For manufacturers & first distributors: We assume your legal product responsibility: Through your financial contribution and connection to our take-back system (OfH), we ensure the nationwide collection, logistics, and recycling of your batteries and fulfill all documentation and reporting obligations on your behalf.

Who can participate in the take-back program?

Our services are designed for professional collection points and partners who wish to ensure proper disposal:

  • Voluntary collection points: Schools, clubs, and businesses.
  • Public waste management authorities: Government agencies or third parties contracted for waste management.
  • Retailers & distributors: Retail outlets required to accept returns.
  • Treatment facilities: Specialized companies for end-of-life vehicles or waste electrical and electronic equipment.

Why is it mandatory to set up collection boxes?

Whether you’re a retailer, supermarket, public institution, or school – anyone who sells batteries or makes them available bears the responsibility:

  • Legal take-back obligation: Under EU regulations, retailers are required to accept used batteries free of charge. Providing clearly visible collection boxes is the legally compliant solution.
  • Safety & Environmental Protection: Batteries contain valuable raw materials (lithium, cobalt, nickel), but also hazardous substances. Proper collection prevents fires caused by improper disposal and protects the environment.
