EPR Spain: Requirements for Packaging, WEEE, and Batteries

The Spanish Ministry of Ecological Transition (MITECO) is cracking down on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). Anyone who places packaging, batteries, or electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) on the Spanish market is subject to these requirements.

The risk?

Failure to comply can quickly lead to sales bans, suspensions on online marketplaces, and hefty fines.

Who is affected?

  • Manufacturers and importers who commercially make goods available in Spain for the first time.
  • Online retailers (B2C) who ship directly from abroad to Spanish end consumers.
  • Marketplace operators who are liable for the compliance of third-party sellers.

You don’t have to navigate this bureaucratic jungle alone.
We offer you the full EPR service for Spain and handle the entire process (registration, reporting, and compliance) for all three areas:

  1. Packaging: Legally compliant cooperation with national take-back systems for household, commercial, and industrial packaging, as well as mandatory registration in the MITECO Packaging Registry.
  2. Batteries and Accumulators: Proper registration in the National Battery Registry (Registro de Productores de Pilas y Acumuladores).
  3. Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE): Proper classification into categories and registration in the Spanish Register of Producers of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Registro de Productores de AEE).
